More Requested Documentation- Consent Decree

Many who have opposed our investigation and coverage have claimed that we have made something out of nothing. That things in Steubenville has never had anything near the number of the problems discussed and that I it is all made up in order to get people to listen. You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes or an expert historian to see how tragically false such a claim is and the transparent attempt to simply silence our work and potentially an effort to protect guilty parties from exposure and accountability.

In response to both our opposition as well as our supporters who asked for some external backing for my validation of the many expressed concerns or outright claims of a culture of cover ups, intimidation and nepotism, by some members of Steubenville’s legal and social elite.

Once again, I submit the requested documentation and let you make your own calls. Below is a copy of the Joint Motion for the Decree, Legal arguments and case law supporting the motion, and The Decree itself. Again I present this and let you make your own decisions. In fairness I do acknowledge in 2005 the Decree was lifted and that much of the leadership during that time as all but completely turned over. However I would be interested in hearing form locals on whether they think things are different and better and why they feel that way and also I would like to hear thoughts from those that feel nothing has changed, if not gotten worse. Remember, any info or documentation offered in confidence will stay in confidence.

One Response to More Requested Documentation- Consent Decree

joey….i didn’t see this at the time this was posted and had obviously become an issue….please consider having me on your show sometime…so i can clarify in explicit detail much of what the consent decree did or didn’t do and how complex, difficult and very very stressful and even sacrificial it was for me, my then wife and numerous others, who assisted in obtaining the interest of the Dept of Justice and having this milestone first of its kind in the nation consent decree, created……only pittsburgh and steubenville has such decrees in the years immediately following the law’s enactment and pittsburgh consent decree was far different in creation than steubenvilles’,….ours was the very first WHOLLY developed consent decree by the investigators at the Special Litigation Unit from the Civil Rights Division…..and i know it full well because they used my materials and my initial interviews at their invitation in Washington and then used a year later, my law office in Steubenville in those days…as their official meeting place for witnesses they interviewed …..i can share much much more about the scope, intent and how serious it was and still is….to be associated with this consent as a resident of steubenville and as a lawyer who has paid a serious high price for standing up for the vulnerable citizens of my hometown…and has also received some very unique official recognition for the same work as well…but you wont find it …on the Steubenville Facts….homepage…for certain……..and to be brief…no, not everything has changed…in steubenvlle since they lifted the decree…..this recent case indicates fully …..the culture isn’t much different …in spirit than, what was present during the years…that led up to and created the environment…that also created the basis for the DOj’s extensive and seriously revealing and damning findings….of the city fathers of the city by the river
